Based in West Hollywood, CA, Michael Pezzullo’s clinical work as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) includes specializations treating those who struggle with “chem-sex” (the addictive process of using substances to heighten sexual arousal), as well as clients who are transgender, gender fluid, non-binary, and gender expansive. His practice also focuses on aspects of gay male identity, addressing issues such as internalized homophobia, body dysmorphia, open and polyamorous relationships, and religious trauma. In private practice, Michael primarily employs a relational, psychodynamic approach, as well as drawing upon training in attachment-focused EMDR. He also provides integrative work to clients using psychedelic treatments. Through clinical experience, Michael has seen how ketamine assisted therapy can offer profound healing to clients by providing a path into their subconscious as well as correcting chronic depressive and anxiety disorders.
In addition to his work in private practice, Michael serves as a primary therapist in both the Addictions and Eos LGBTQIA+ programs at Camden Center in Los Angeles. Previously, he worked for two years at La Fuente Hollywood Treatment Center, one of the few exclusively queer dual-diagnosis treatment facilities in the country. His clinical work began with the study of psychoanalysis at Valley Community Counseling Clinic, followed by the treatment of sexual compulsivity at Center for Healthy Sex and clinical work with adolescents at Evolve Treatment. He also created and facilitated an LGBTQIA+ identity group for Impulse United, a global HIV advocacy nonprofit funded by the AIDS Health Foundation (AHF).
In addition to clinical work, Michael volunteers his time for two LGBTQIA+ nonprofit organizations: WayOut and Alliance for Housing & Healing. Michael is also a social media and events chair for the Group Psychotherapy Association of Los Angeles.
Michael Pezzullo earned his Master of Arts in clinical psychology from Antioch University and his Bachelor of Science in marketing and communications from New York University.
